Science Journalism Forum Suspended

Dear Partners and Friends,
I am sorry to inform you that due to unavoidable circumstances, the 3rd USJA Science Journalism Forum that was to take place on February 4th, 2014, at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, has been suspended.

A new Date and Venue will be communicated.

In this communication, we still send our condolences to the family of the late Dr. Emily Twinamasiko, the NARO establishment, the Ugandan government and the global science fraternity.  Dr. Twinamasiko was slated to give the Keynote address at the Forum. May her soul Rest In Eternal Peace!

We thank those that have continued to support our efforts and promise to do our best to deliver the forum in its full value as soon as possible.

We regret any inconveniences these changes may have caused.

Yours Faithfully,

William Odinga Baikuddembe

A Ugandan journalist’s New Year prayer (By William Odinga Balikuddembe)

Lord,
In my silence please hear me loud:
For people to speak it is I you picked
My lips they have taped
My head they have clubbed
My legs they have clumped
My tools they have smashed
I am timid
like a Katanga kid at a Kololo gate
I am as tense as a cow in City Abattoir
I want to run
but I can’t:
My feet, my head, my pride…

They say I am the Fourth Estate;
The voice of the voiceless
But in this state I am useless!

I am a journalist, Yes!
A Uganda journalist
Ask me twice: Who are you? Who are you?
I WORK IN THE MEDIA, so I say
Lord, I want to be a journalist in 2014
May you touch the hearts of Kayihura’s men!
